Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine with some of the largest drone and missile barrages seen in recent months. On 1 June, Ukrainian officials reported hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles launched in a single night, following repeated large-scale strikes on Kyiv and other cities. Analysts suggest Russia is pursuing a strategy aimed at weakening public morale and increasing pressure on Ukraine’s leadership by targeting major urban centres. At the same time, Ukraine has continued to develop innovative drone-based warfare, striking military supply routes, fuel infrastructure and strategic facilities deep inside Russia. Observers warn that the conflict could become even more unpredictable if attacks expand beyond the current battlefield (for example a recent Russian drone strike on an apartment block in Romania), raising concerns for neighbouring countries and NATO members. Meanwhile, the human and economic costs continue to mount on both sides. As the war enters another critical phase, hopes for a negotiated settlement appear increasingly distant.
