Lithuanian police have uncovered one of the largest synthetic drug laboratories in the Baltic region, seizing substantial quantities of illegal substances and chemicals near Vilnius. Investigators recovered more than 500 kg of methamphetamine, 300 kg of amphetamine, 4.5 kg of synthetic cathinone, and over 3,000 litres of materials used to prepare amphetamines. Authorities estimate that the drugs represented more than four million individual doses, potentially worth over €20 million at street level. A Dutch national of Turkish origin is suspected of organising the operation, with three Lithuanian accomplices. The laboratory was supplying international markets, including several European countries. Police also intercepted a shipment containing seventeen kilograms of amphetamine crystals destined for the Czech Republic. Those convicted of manufacturing or trafficking such large quantities of illegal drugs could face imprisonment of up to eighteen years. In an unrelated but equally important operation, a huge consignment of cocaine destined for the Netherlands has been seized in Colombia: see
