Wycliffe celebrate as Bible translated into 800th language

Wycliffe Bible Translators is celebrating a significant milestone as the complete Bible has now been translated into 800 languages, enabling an estimated 6.2 billion people to access God’s Word in their heart language. The achievement reflects decades of dedication by local translation teams, churches, supporters, and partner organisations around the world. The number of full Bible translations has doubled since 1998, with more than 100 completed in the past six years alone, bringing Scripture to an additional 500 million people. Recent projects include translations for languages spoken in Cameroon, Togo, Benin, Ghana, and Siberia. Advances in technology have helped accelerate translation efforts, allowing communities to receive the Bible far sooner than was once thought possible. Wycliffe’s executive director James Poole, describing this as an extraordinary moment in world mission, said that access to Scripture strengthens evangelism, discipleship, and local church ministry. Despite the progress, around one in five people worldwide still lack access to the Bible in their own language.
