Manhunt launched as child sex offender disappears

Police are continuing a nationwide search for a convicted child sex offender who disappeared before the conclusion of a major exploitation trial. Sharam Muhamadi, 21, was found guilty in his absence of offences connected to the grooming and exploitation of vulnerable teenage girls after failing to attend Sheffield Crown Court. He was convicted alongside another man who was found guilty of raping and exploiting seven girls aged between 12 and 16 in the Doncaster area. The court heard that the offenders used false identities and social media platforms to groom their victims, offering gifts, money and other incentives before transporting them for exploitation. Police launched an immediate search when Muhamadi failed to appear in court. Officers believe he travelled to Birmingham shortly before his disappearance and may still be in the UK. They have vowed to use every means to locate him and bring him before the courts. Authorities have commended the courage of the young victims whose evidence helped secure convictions despite the complexity of the investigation and trial.
