Counter-terrorism police investigating the suspected security threat near RAF Fairford have re-arrested two men, with authorities believing Iranian intelligence may have been involved. A 24-year-old British national and a 25-year-old dual British-Iranian national are being held on suspicion of assisting a foreign intelligence service under the National Security Act. The investigation began on 27 September after three suspicious vehicles were spotted approaching the American airbase, prompting evacuations and deployment of bomb disposal specialists. Petrol was discovered in three vans, although police confirmed no improvised explosive devices were found. Seven men have been arrested during the investigation, with five remaining on bail. RAF Fairford has supported American military operations in the Middle East, but US bombers were subsequently withdrawn following security concerns. Police emphasise that the investigation remains complex, sensitive and ongoing.
