Philippines: ASEAN summit to focus on implications of Middle East conflict

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is holding its 48th summit in Cebu City, Philippines, bringing together regional leaders to address pressing challenges under the theme ‘Navigating our future, together’. The three-day gathering is focussing on strengthening cooperation, economic resilience and sustainability across a bloc of nearly 700 million people. Key priorities include energy and food security, as well as the broader well-being of communities, including discussions on ways to mitigate the consequences of the conflict in the Middle East. Led by secretary-general Kao Kim Hourn, discussions will aim to reinforce ASEAN’s three pillars of political-security, economic and socio-cultural cooperation. The summit underscores the importance of unity, dialogue and coordinated action in navigating regional uncertainties and promoting shared stability and growth.
