Several Baptist church leaders have been killed in a brutal ambush in Manipur state, northeast India, amid continuing ethnic unrest in the region. The victims, senior figures within the Kuki Baptist community, were travelling on a public road when armed attackers targeted them, leaving others critically injured. The United Christian Forum of North East India (UCFNEI) condemned the killings as an ‘inhuman act of violence’ and said the attack was not only against individuals but against peace and brotherhood itself. The pastors were widely respected for their ministry, reconciliation work and spiritual leadership within communities already traumatised by ongoing conflict. Christian leaders have called for a full and impartial investigation, urging the authorities to ensure justice and improve protection for vulnerable minorities and church leaders. The attack has intensified fears among Christians in Manipur, where prolonged violence has displaced thousands and deepened tensions between communities across the state.
