The Green Party leader Zack Polanski has apologised for his failure to pay council tax while living on a houseboat in London. The party admitted that he had until recently lived on the boat, and said he had now taken steps to pay any council tax found to be owed. The issue arose after reports suggested the houseboat might have been his main residence for several years. Waltham Forest Council said it is assessing the matter and seeking legal advice because of the complex rules surrounding residential moorings. Tax experts stated that boats used as a person’s primary home are liable for council tax. Political opponents criticised Polanski, accusing him of hypocrisy, while the controversy follows a separate recent admission in which he acknowledged wrongly describing himself as a spokesman for the British Red Cross while campaigning in 2022.
